Earlier this year, a Taiwan weekly magazine reported that Tibet's 17th Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje was accused of having a girlfriend. It has caused great shock in Tibetan Buddhism. After all, Karmapa is now an international Buddhist master with tens of millions of believers, especially in Taiwan. It is hard to tell whether such reports are accurate or not. Especially ordinary people, because they don’t know much about the inheritance and rituals of Tibetan Buddhism, it is easy to cause misunderstanding and even stigmatization. Such reports are very harmful to the image of Tibetan Buddhism.
The nosy parkers describe it very vividly about the matter. The followers of the Kagyu tradition have two mentalities. One is to maintain the purity of the protection of the tradition and believe that Karmapa will not violate the precepts; the other is to doubt and even retreat. But those who understand Karmapa's teachings and practices will not waver. In particular, Karmapa fled from Tibet to India in 2000, and at the age of 16, he was able to cross the mountains to India to seek the teachings of the Kagyu tradition. During the Kagyu Monlam, in addition to teaching the Dharma, Karmapa had to be busy receiving believers from all over the world every day after the Ceremony, sometimes sleeping less than 4 hours a day; not to mention that there were guards at the door of the room where Karmapa lived. There is also security personnel to follow him at any time to protect him. How could he have spare time to slip out for a bit of happiness?
After the incident, Karmapa continued his retreat without making any clarifications. Many years ago, a woman went to the Gyuto Tantric Monastery to request Karmapa's instructions because of her emotional problems. Karmapa was in a hurry to leave because of Dharma affairs, and he did not immediately respond. Later, the woman was in the guest house of Gyuto Tantric Monastery committed suicide in her room. This incident made Karmapa extremely shocked and remorseful. After that, as long as the disciple has any questions, he will do everything to handle them.
Karmapa's sister said, " I know he is too kind and doesn't know how to be wary of others. Especially when the other side cried and complained, he couldn't help it, so he was sad and sad with the other side.” He is unequivocal that as long as there is a response to such an incident, it will hurt anyone. Silence because of compassion.
The report also mentioned another well-known Dzongsar Rinpoche, who not only taught Buddhism lively and pointed to people's hearts but also a renowned director, who taught Buddhism many times in Taiwan. There is an inextricable knot between the Han and Tibetan ethnic groups, especially between Chinese and Tibetan Buddhism. In recent years, exchanges and mutual trust have only begun, but the power to exclude Tibetan Buddhism is still strong.
When this happens, the disciples should examine their minds. The Buddha once said that rely on the Dharma and not rely on the teacher's personality; in Tibetan Buddhism, the disciples should depend on the Bodhicitta of the Guru. This matter should not be upset.
